We are a small friendly club with around sixty-five bowling members and can be found nestled behind Churchdown Club right in the heart of the lovely village of Churchdown, midway between the historic city of Gloucester and the spa town of Cheltenham, on the edge of the wonderful Cotswolds.
The Churchdown Club opened in 1921 originally as the United Services Club for servicemen returning from the First World War. The bowls green was constructed in 1923 and a year later, during extension work, a number of skeletons were discovered. Work was suspended whilst an Archaeological Society decided the skeletons had been in situ for many years and were Saxon in origin. The ground was a burial ground possibly during the black death. So we never have a wrong bias at Churchdown - we can blame it on the bones!
We are a section of the Churchdown Club, a fantastic facility open each evening and all day at weekends throughout the year. The club boasts a fantastic selection of real ales and lagers, soft drinks and wines. We have a function room, skittle alley, darts board and pool table with the added attraction of Sky Sports.
Our ladies and men members currently play in their double rink county leagues and the men in the North Gloucestershire League. There are mixed friendly matches most weekends and a popular triples league between members on Wednesday evenings. With a qualified coach and lots of support from senior members we welcome new bowlers. So there is plenty of bowling to suit everyone's taste.
Churchdown Bowling Club welcomes bookings from touring bowling clubs and will always endeavour to accommodate requests received and hot meals can be arranged if required as well as the usual bowls teas.
Initial enquiries should be sent to the Fixtures Secretary. We look forward to welcoming you to our Club.
